Movie and television cowboy hero, William Boyd aka Hoppalong Cassidy, was a Palm Desert resident and known for giving his "Hoppy" wooden nickels to children and teaching them his tips to good citizenship known as "Hoppy’s Creed". The trail was dedicated on January 31, 2004 by his widow, Grace Bradley Boyd, saying that "Hoppy and Topper (his horse) would have loved the trail and encouraged everyone to enjoy it and practice trail safety".
This eight mile hike is one of the few on which dogs are allowed (leashed or within 50 feet of owner) in the Palm Springs trail system. It begins at the base of Homme Adams Park in Palm Desert and links with the 8-mile Hopalong Trail, which opened in 2006 as a connector trail to the Art Smith and Bump and Grind trails. Outstanding Features: sweeping views of Coachella Valley, desert vegetation, rock formations.
Be prepared and have fun.
